Captain for a Day!!
What a wonderful day regardless of the much needed rain
that decided to fall, and of course clear away as the event concluded. It was
my first experience with the "Dawn of Hope" boat excursion, and what a
heart-warming fulfilling day. For those unknowing of the event, the Mogul
mashers gather together with their pontoon boats to allow the Dawn of Hope
participants who are mentally/physically challenged to become "Captain for a
day" as they negotiate the boats on Boone lake. Afterward we enjoy lunch
together at lakeside. According to the Hope counselors, it's an event they all
have embraced and truly look forward to every year. From what I've heard,
it's the only time they've ever seen one participant ever smile....This year
Channel 11 came to film us with a good showing on the news. (Unfortunately I
was napping at the time). Thanks to Pat Potter for setting that up! Also
Thanks to Ed, Cindy, and Alex Dance for the great "Captain for a Day" hats! So
for those of you who truly want to bring joy to others, this is an outstanding
event and don't miss it next
year! Barb Lang

I want to thank everyone who contributed to Captain For
A Day. Your time, boats, and contribution to the gift bags is much
appreciated. We had a great time even though is rained. I hope everyone went
home humbled after this experience. Again thank you for all your help, it could
not have take place without you. See you next year.
