Captain For a Day on Boone Lake - July 15, 2005
On July 15, with the sunshine, the Mogul Mashers took 24 Dawn of Hope residents and 6 counselors to Boone Lake. This event named CAPTAIN FOR A DAY is an annual community service project for our club. The Dawn of Hope is a facility located in Johnson City, TN. The members are mentally and physically handicapped adults. These residents are transported to the facility each day and depending on their capability some residents actually work and earn a paycheck. (Several businesses use their services. An example would be a pizza parlor hiring them to put together boxes.) Captain For A Day was a great success. For those residents who wanted to be captain of the boat, they were given the opportunity to steer. They laughed and showed so much enthusiasm. At lunch we docked at the Bays’ lake house. Some of the residents stayed on the boat and ate their lunch while others got off the boat and sat on the grass to eat. The residents are wonderful individuals and make the most of this trip. One counselor told me how much the residents look forward to us taking them to the lake. As for the counselors, they show so much care and patience for each and everyone of these special people. They are true blessings in the lives of these residents. At the end of the trip, each resident was given a gift bag filled with different types of goodies. For us Mogul Mashers, I think we got as much out of this outing as the residents themselves. We had a good turnout of Mogul Mashers. For those of you who have never gone on this trip, you are missing a great time. It makes you so appreciative in a variety of ways. Thank you to Wayne for all your hard work, to those who contributed time and came to help, for donating your boat, and items for the gift bags. Also thank you to Sonny’s Marina for letting us use their facilities. All of us came together for this worthwhile cause. Hope to see you next year, Betsy Pearce
Dear Mogul Mashers: On behalf of the Board, Clients and Staff at Dawn of Hope, thank you for allowing us to spend a wonderful day at the lake with the Mogul Mashers. It was a fun day, and everyone had a great time! Thank you for making the clients' day so special. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next year!
