Hey ETMMites
I just
want to thank everyone that came tonight. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I
did. We've done three of them here, and I think this was our best so far.
I was
really happy to see our friends Krista and Ann drive all the way over from Sugar
Mountain. Is there any rule that says a former Olympian can't join our club and
race for us. With a little work I think we might pull that one off.
My buddy
Tim and Celeste had a great time, and told me what a good bunch you were.
Thanks for making them feel welcome. Most of you know that Tim and I were in
the Marines together. As 19 year old Marines, we got into more than our share
of trouble all over the Mediterranean. We literally traveled from Morocco to
Turkey together. Naples and Barcelona still have scars from some adventures we
got into. Tim went on to finish a career in the Marine Corps retiring as a
Gunnery Sergeant. During that time he saw combat in Granada, Lebanon, and
Panama. I think he was in Dessert Storm as well. Tim carries a scar from a
Russian bayonet he got a little too close to in Granada. If any of you saw the
Clint Eastwood movie (I think it was called) Heartbreak Ridge about the Granada
Invasion, well you were swapping SEC stories with the real guy.
Christine is very interested in getting into the race program. She has never
raced, but she loves to ski, and I'm sure she'll catch on to racing very
well. I think she will be an asset to the team, and the club. I know she had a
good time, and plans to be at the next meeting.
Again to
all who came, thank-you. For those that could not, we missed you, and hope
you'll try to be here next year. As far as next year goes, unless God or the
bank run me off this place, we'll do it again in 12 months.
Ride,
ski, drive, and fly safe, and we'll see you on November 1st in Kingsport for the
November meeting
Dale, AKA Goobermeister
Thank you so much to
Dale Strother for hosting the annual Gooberfest this past October 15th at his
beautiful home! We all had a wonderful time. It was a gorgeous night, clear
and cold (at least for me) and the bonfire was blazing with various ski items
being sacrificed to call forth the new ski season. I'm sure Uller (the winter
God) was listening and will send lots of snow. Thanks also to everyone who came
to enjoy the festivity and for all the wonderful food. In fact, the food was
too good...by at least a couple of pounds. For those who couldn't make it, we
missed you and you definitely lost out on a great celebration. Let's all keep
enticing Uller for
a snowy ski season so we can get out there and get that first place
trophy!
